Who Is Chapel
Hill Christian Church?
Chapel Hill Christian Church is on the move! In June, we
departed our lovely and functional worship space at the Chapel
Hill YMCA. A giant thanks to everyone at the Y! We
are now worshipping at the Carrboro Civic Club which is located
at 108 Bim Street in Carrboro. We are right behind the Carrboro
Police Department. We will have a "grand opening" in the
late summer as we celebrate the Blessing of the Backpacks as school
begins.
Until our move, Chapel Hill Christian Church was a
church in a box --- literally. We meet at the YMCA in Chapel Hill.
Everything that we owned resided in boxes and is housed in an ancient
Isuzu Trooper that rested in the parking lot of the YMCA. We
are excited to have moved out of our box!
Life at the Carrboro Civic Club is easier. We still set up
tables and chairs but we have storage space, access to a refrigerator
and space for our children's ministry. We will also be able
to use the space for additional worship services and fellowship
activities.
Sometimes, we still suffer from “church envy”. Sometimes
we long for our own building, for a beautiful pulpit, for comfortable
seats.
But most of the time, we rejoice that we can come together and
create church together. Most of the time we are glad that over
25% of our budget is spend on mission and out-reach.
Most of the time we enjoy and rejoice at being a different kind
of church.
We planted ourselves in Chapel Hill in 2003. Michael Byerley, Rebecca
McCulloh and Michael Shannon held the first worship service in
January of 2003.
We are currently served by two bi-vocational pastors: Rebecca McCulloh
and Mike Shannon. We have two musicians: Charles Bradshaw
and Marla Layton.
We welcome everyone to come and worship, fellowship, and serve
with us. We extend a special welcome to the un-churched, and the
de-churched, to traditional Disciples of Christ members.
We are a congregation that is diverse in age, ethnicity, ability,
sexual preference, and in all ways.
We are a congregation that is open, affirming and welcoming of
all.
